Our Story

A Legacy of Doing It Right

First Rate Excavate was founded in 1982 by Harold Goeden with a clear purpose: to bring quality, integrity, and accountability to the excavation industry. With decades of hands-on experience, Harold built the company on a simple philosophy — do it right the first time — and surrounded himself with a team that shares the same values.

What started as a small operation has grown into a trusted leader in excavation and underground utility work, known for reliability and consistently high standards. In 2003, Harold’s son, Bryan Goeden, joined the team, learning the business from the ground up and stepping into an ownership role as Vice President in 2022.

Today, First Rate Excavate is proud to be employee-owned — a model that gives every team member a vested interest in the company’s success and the quality of work we deliver.

Our Owners

Harold Goeden

President, Owner

Founded by Harold Goeden on August 1, 1982, First Rate Excavate is the product of his vision, dedication, and more than four decades of hands-on industry experience.

As Owner and President, Harold has led the company with a steadfast commitment to doing things right the first time. Under his leadership, First Rate Excavate has grown into a trusted provider of high-quality excavation and underground services, built on reliability, skilled teamwork, and a reputation for excellence.

Bryan Goeden

Vice President, Co-Owner

Bryan joined First Rate Excavate in 2003, working his way up through every level of the business alongside his father, company founder Harold Goeden.

With years of hands-on field experience and a deep understanding of the operation, Bryan officially became Vice President and co-owner in 2022. Today, he continues to lead with the same dedication to quality, integrity, and hard work that has defined our company since day one.

Granite

Office Mascot, believes he is the owner

Granite has been a beloved member of the First Rate Excavate team since he was a kitten, joining the office family about five years ago. As the official office cat and mascot, Granite brings warmth, charm, and a bit of mischief to the workplace. Known for greeting customers at the door and making his daily rounds in search of treats from staff, Granite has become a comforting presence and a source of smiles for everyone who visits. His playful personality and loyal companionship truly make him a unique part of the team.
